The Spring Bank Holiday week brings a packed schedule of tournaments and three of Moorgate's outstanding junior prospects were in action, with two of them seeking their first wins, in singles events.
First up was 13 year old Dan Porter, who took part in the Grade 4, 16 and Under Spring Bank Tournament, held at Abbeydale Tennis Club, as an unseeded player and the youngest competitor.
After hard fought matches in the quarter and semi finals, both against more highly ranked opponents, he took on a seeded player, in the final. looking to improve on his runner up spot, from the previous week and cruised to his maiden victory, for the loss of just one game.
Next to take up the challenge were 12 year old Megan Cinco and 14 year old Emily Busby, who were taking part in the South Yorkshire Area Championships, at 12 and Under and 16 and Under levels,
Megan who was looking for her first tournament win, fought her way through to the final and emerged triumphant, to be followed by Emily, who was largely untroubled, on her way to the title.
On Sunday the two girls returned to league action, looking to help their teams maintain their 100% starts, to the season, with Megan joining Cameron Wood, Jacob Porter and Madeleine Busby, in the 12 and Under team, which travelled to face Fulwood and the team cruised to a fifth successive victory and with just three games remaining, they will look to clinch the title, as soon as possible.
Emily joined her colleagues, Josh Bows, Andrew Cleminson and Megan West, as the 18 and Under side took on Stocksbridge, at home.
Despite a good performance, by the visitors, the Moorgate youngsters proved to be far too strong, taking the match 6-0, to also maintain their 100% start to the season.
